Library Cards
Our library welcomes all residents, employees, and full-time students of Carteret, New Jersey, to obtain a Carteret Public Library card. All library cards are valid for three (3) years from the date of issue, with the exception of cards obtained by members of non-reciprocal communities and temporary library users.

Residents
Anyone who works full-time, goes to school full-time, or owns property in Carteret may obtain a library card, which can be used to check out materials, access online research databases, and use the public computers at the library. Proof of any of the above will be satisfied by showing such documents as a current driver's license, current NJ identification card, utility bills, or other official (postmarked no later than three months), payroll check (no later than three months), apartment lease, school report card or schedule, student ID, or lease agreement, Id Cards, NJ Boating License, a letter from a care of Organization indicating the individual resides in Carteret NJ.

Children up to grade 7 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian to obtain a card. Patrons who present ID with a PO Box will be required to show proof of their physical address in Carteret, New Jersey.

Non-Residents
Members of non-reciprocal libraries may obtain a Carteret Free Public Library card for an annual fee of $50.00. The card is valid for one year from the date of payment.

Replacement Cards
If your library card is lost or stolen, a replacement card can be issued. You must show identification following the guidelines listed above. The charge for a replacement library card is $2.00.

Carteret Public Library cards are non-transferable. Only the person whose name appears on the name/signature line of the library card application may use the library card. Unauthorized usage will result in the confiscation of the library card. The true owner will need to retrieve the card from the library with a photo ID.
